My Canadian Adventure: 7 Days, 5 Cities, Endless Memories

I recently had the chance to experience an incredible educational trip to Canada with Newmarket Holidays, and honestly, it completely exceeded my expectations. This wasn’t just your typical sightseeing tour—it was the perfect mix of iconic bucket-list moments and genuinely fun, memorable experiences.

From seeing the power of Niagara Falls up close (and even flying over it!) to exploring the buzzing streets of Toronto, the history-filled capital of Ottawa, and the European-style charm of Montreal and Quebec City, every day felt completely different and exciting.

What I loved most was how easy everything was—transport, hotels, and activities were all organised, so I could just enjoy the experience without worrying about the details. It’s the kind of trip that gives you a real feel for each place while still ticking off all the must-see highlights.

If you’re looking for a trip that’s equal parts fun, eye-opening, and unforgettable, have a read of my day-by-day itinerary to see exactly what we got up to.

Day 1-
Our journey began bright and early at Heathrow Airport, departing at 8:30am. The experience at the airport was surprisingly smooth and quick, making for a stress-free start to the trip. We flew with Air Canada, and the 7 hour and 30 minute journey passed comfortably thanks to their friendly and attentive service.
Upon landing in Toronto, we hopped on a coach for a scenic 1 hour and 30 minute ride to Niagara Falls. Our hotel, the Sheraton Fallsview Hotel, was an excellent choice. The rooms were spacious and comfortable, but the real highlight was the view. I highly recommend booking a fallsview room—waking up to a direct view of Niagara Falls is something you won’t forget.
The hotel’s location was ideal, with many attractions just a short walk away, making it easy to explore without needing transport.
In the evening, we visited the Niagara Parks Power Station for their night experience. This included a captivating light show followed by the chance to get up close to the falls. This was absolutely breathtaking and a perfect way to end our first day.
After such a memorable start, we headed back to the hotel for an early night, ready to take on everything Day 2 had in store

Day 2-
We started our morning with breakfast at the Sheraton Fallsview Hotel. The selection was great, and it was the perfect way to fuel up for a busy day of exploring.
Our first activity was a helicopter ride with Niagara Helicopters—and this truly is a must-do. The flight was smooth, and the moment the helicopter lifted above the treetops and the full view of Niagara Falls appeared beneath us was breathtaking. Seeing the Horseshoe Falls from above, with the mist rising and rainbows forming in the sunlight, was one of those once-in-a-lifetime moments.
After the helicopter tour, we travelled to the picturesque town of Niagara-on-the-Lake. This little village has a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere, with boutique shops, cafés, bakeries, wineries, and even a place where you can create your own perfume. We wandered through the streets, exploring the local shops, and then took a peaceful stroll down to the lake. The view across the water was calm and beautiful—a nice contrast to the power of the falls.
Back in Niagara Falls, our next stop was the Journey Behind the Falls. This experience lets you walk through tunnels directly behind the falls, and you can hear the thunder of the water echoing all around you. When you step out onto the viewing platforms, you’re so close that you can feel the mist on your face. It was incredible to see the falls from underneath and from different angles—it really shows just how powerful they are.
We then visited Niagara takes flight It’s a virtual, immersive experience where you “fly” over Niagara through wind, mist, and motion effects. It’s great fun and makes you feel as though you’re soaring right over the landscapes and waterfalls.
To end the day, we enjoyed dinner at the Table Rock House Restaurant. The food was fantastic—fresh, flavourful, and beautifully presented. The best part, though, was the view: large windows looking directly out at the illuminated falls. It made for a cosy, memorable dining experience and the perfect ending to a full day of sightseeing

Day 3 -
We left Niagara in the morning and travelled to Toronto, a journey of about 1 hour and 30 minutes. Once we arrived, we checked into the Chelsea Hotel Toronto. The location was perfect for getting around the city, and it’s an ideal choice for families thanks to its dedicated children’s area and family-friendly facilities.
We began our Toronto experience with a private city sightseeing tour, which gave us a great overview of the different neighbourhoods, key landmarks, and the overall feel of the city.
Our first stop was the Hockey Hall of Fame. Inside, we explored historic hockey memorabilia, famous trophies, and plenty of interactive games—perfect fun for children and adults alike.
Next, we visited Little Canada. This miniature world features tiny, incredibly detailed versions of famous Canadian landmarks and cities. A highlight is the chance to create your own miniature 3D figure and place it anywhere you choose within the display—a unique and memorable touch.
For dinner, we headed to the rotating 360 Restaurant at the CN Tower. The entire dining area slowly turns, giving you breathtaking panoramic views of Toronto from every angle. The food was excellent, and the atmosphere was unforgettable.
After dinner, we stepped onto the iconic glass floor—an exciting (and slightly scary!) moment where you can look directly down. A perfect end to an exciting day.

Day 4 -
Today I left Toronto and began the journey toward Canada’s capital, Ottawa—with a quick but worthwhile stop in Kingston. The 2 hour 45 minute drive flew by, and Kingston immediately impressed with its gorgeous lake views and calm, welcoming atmosphere. Boats crossed the water to nearby regions, making the whole place feel scenic and peaceful.
To explore, we hopped on a city trolley tour, which was a great way to see the highlights. Along the route we passed the Royal Military College of Canada, several federal penitentiaries, the historic Bellevue House, and plenty of unique shops that gave Kingston its charm. It’s the kind of place you could easily spend a couple of nights discovering.
After our visit, we continued on to Ottawa—an incredible city that exceeded every expectation. We checked into the Courtyard by Marriott, perfectly located just a short walk from shops, restaurants, and top attractions. Ottawa has an amazing blend of vibrant nightlife and rich history, making it instantly captivating.
For dinner, we headed to Zak’s Diner, where the food was delicious and the milkshakes were on another level. After a satisfying meal, we made our way back to the hotel to rest up for the day ahead.

Day 5-
We started our morning with a walking tour of Ottawa, taking in the impressive Parliament Buildings and beautiful views across the St. Lawrence River. A highlight was visiting the National War Memorial and seeing the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier guarded by members of the Canadian Armed Forces—a powerful and memorable moment. Ottawa is full of history, and it was the perfect place to begin the day.
After the tour, we checked out of the hotel and drove to Montreal, a scenic 2.5-hour journey. We checked into the Le Centre Sheraton, conveniently located near markets, bars, and shops. From there, we took the subway—an easy way to get around the city—and headed to Tyrolienne MTL Zipline for an exciting zipline ride right beside the St. Lawrence River. We finished the afternoon on the Ferris wheel, enjoying incredible views of Montreal’s skyline before heading back to the hotel for the night.

Day 6-
We started the day early and made our way to Quebec City—a journey that was absolutely worth it the moment we arrived. Our guided walking tour took us through the charming streets of Old Quebec, a UNESCO World Heritage Site filled with history, character, and incredible architecture.
One of the highlights was seeing the iconic Fairmont Le Château Frontenac, towering above the city like a fairytale castle. We also explored several historical spots and museums along the way, each offering a glimpse into the city’s rich past. Another standout was the stunning Basilica-Cathedral Notre-Dame de Québec, a beautiful and peaceful place that left a lasting impression.
Quebec City was full of little shops to browse, scenic streets to wander, and lovely walks along the waterfront that made the whole experience feel like stepping into a European village. After a full day of exploring, we headed back—tired but completely captivated by this incredible city

Day 7-
Sadly, our final day began in Montreal. We started with a visit to the Warwick Le Crystal, a boutique-style hotel in a great central location. While smaller in feel, it really stood out for its spacious, light-filled rooms—perfect for a comfortable city stay.
Next, we headed to the Montreal Eaton Centre for some shopping. With so many stores to explore, you could easily spend hours there browsing and picking up last-minute finds.
Of course, no trip to Quebec would be complete without trying poutine—a classic comfort food that definitely lived up to the hype and is a must-try for anyone visiting.
To round off the trip, we visited the Musée Imaginarium, a fun and immersive experience perfect for all ages. With over 16 fantastical universes, it brought creativity and selfies to life—an ideal and lighthearted way to end our journey.
After that, it was time to head to the airport and say goodbye to the beautiful country of Canada—a place full of unforgettable cities, history, and experiences

Overall, I absolutely loved my time in Canada. Every place we visited had its own unique story to tell, with so much history to explore and incredible sights at every turn—experiences I know I’ll never forget.
One standout moment has to be flying over Niagara Falls. It’s something I never imagined I would do, but it turned out to be truly unforgettable. Seeing the falls from above gives you a completely different perspective, and it’s something I would highly recommend to anyone planning a trip.

Dubai in June – Hot, Affordable, and Unforgettable

Our Carly from the Cleveleys shop swapped the Fylde Coast breeze for the scorching sands of Dubai...

If you’re thinking about visiting Dubai in the summer – do it. Yes, it’s hot (and I mean HOT) but it’s also the best time to grab bargain flights and hotel deals. We recently had an unforgettable 4 day trip to Dubai in June, and I’ve pulled together everything we learned to help you make the most of it.

Where We Stayed – VOCO Bonnington, Dubai Marina

We stayed at the VOCO Bonnington in the heart of Dubai Marina and honestly, we couldn't fault it. The location was perfect – close to shops, restaurants, the beach, and the marina walk. The hotel itself was stunning, with lovely rooms and great service.

Flight Tips – What Not to Do

We flew overnight, landing in Dubai at 7:25 AM and flying back early morning – big mistake. We barely slept and arrived shattered.
Top tip for next time:
Book a morning flight from Manchester that arrives around 7–8 PM in Dubai
Return on the 2:00 AM flight home (you’ll be awake anyway!)

Surviving the Heat in Summer

SPF 50 is essential – don’t even think about anything lower!
Stay hydrated – always carry water
Plan breaks between activities
Stick to indoor attractions during the day- Plan ahead before you go
Some major outdoor attractions close in summer , like Global Village and Miracle Garden – so double check before you go.

Saffron Brunch at Atlantis The Palm – 10/10

One of our biggest highlights was Saffron Brunch – unlimited food, drinks, and great vibes for around £100pp.

Non-stop music and dancing
Absolutely worth every penny!

Marina Nights & Beach Walks

After sunset, Dubai Marina comes to life. We took a lovely walk to JBR Beach , browsed shops, paddled in the sea, and enjoyed the buzz of the beach clubs and restaurants. Warm sea, cool breeze, and twinkling lights – it felt magical.

Dubai Mall & Burj Khalifa

The Dubai Mall is massive – think Trafford Centre times ten. We explored the shops, admired the huge aquarium, and headed outside for our first view of the Burj Khalifa, a big pinch me moment. You can book to go up the tower, but we were short on time – it’s on the list for next time!
(Unfortunately, the fountains were closed for refurb when we visited.)

Desert Safari – Better Than Expected

We booked a Night Desert Safari and WOW – what a night.

Pickup at 2:15 PM, private car for 6
Optional quad bikes and camel rides
Cultural performances, fire show, and unlimited buffet
Henna, shisha, traditional tea & treats

Top tip: wear closed shoes – the sand is scorching!
All of this cost around £35pp – unreal value for what you get. Honestly, one of my favourite experiences.

Aquaventure Waterpark – Splash Heaven

Located at Atlantis The Palm , this is the world’s biggest waterpark and it did not disappoint.

Waterslides, rapids, and lazy rivers
Access to the private beach
Free buggy rides between zones
Private sunbeds – totally worth it for comfort
Food was surprisingly good (Chicken Caesar Salad + Fries – chef’s kiss)
Top tip: bring proper water shoes – the floor gets HOT!

Sunrise at Aura Skypool – Bucket List Moment

We woke at 4:30 AM for the Sunrise Experience at Aura Skypool (6–9 AM) and it was SO worth it.

360° views of the city
Gorgeous infinity pool
Peaceful, calm, and unforgettable

We paid about £65 for a second-row bed with Marina view – ideal spot to watch the sun rise.

Final Night – Gastronomy at Atlantis the Royal

To end the trip in style, we dined at Gastronomy, Atlantis The Royal.

HUGE variety of gourmet dishes
Soft drinks + mocktails included for £75pp
Elegant, luxurious, and totally worth the splurge

Afterwards, we explored the hotel and watched the water fountain show – the perfect send-off.

What We Missed (But Plan to Do Next Time!)

Because of the summer closures, we missed:

Global Village
Going up the Burj
Proper dune bashing in Abu Dhabi

Which means... we’ll definitely be back.

Final Thoughts

Dubai in June might sound crazy, but with the right planning, it’s the perfect blend of luxury, adventure, and unforgettable memories – all at a lower price.

If you're thinking about it, my advice... Book it. Pack your SPF. Prepare to be amazed.

A 3-Night Budapest Escape: Cocktails, Culture & Chimney Cakes

As a 35-year-old woman with a love for quirky spots, beautiful views, and making memories over great food, Budapest had long been on my travel wish list — and wow, it did not disappoint. My partner and I just returned from a whirlwind 3-night city break in this magical city, and I honestly feel like I need a week to recover… not because I’m tired, but because I already have a case of the Buda Blues.

Let me take you through the unforgettable highlights.

Day 1: Fear of Heights & Peanuts on the Floor

We began our trip a little out of the ordinary — with a ride on the Zugliget Chair Lift. It's a peaceful, slow ascent through the Buda Hills, and at the top, we hiked to the Elizabeth Lookout Tower. Now, I’ll admit — I’m terrified of heights. Climbing those narrow stone stairs to the top had my heart racing, but the panoramic views made it all worth it. You could see all of Budapest stretched out like a painting — it was honestly breathtaking.

After making our way back down, we headed straight for one of the city's most iconic landmarks: the Chain Bridge. It’s not only stunning to look at, but it’s also such a romantic walk. In fact, we brought a padlock with us and attached it to the bridge as a little memory of our trip — a small but meaningful gesture to leave a piece of us in the city. I’d read about couples doing it and couldn’t resist. It was such a special moment, just standing there with the Danube flowing beneath us.

Then it was off to For Sale Pub — a place where chaos and charm meet. Rustic wooden beams, dim lighting, and tables piled high with peanuts you’re actually meant to throw on the floor (yes, really). I ordered the chicken schnitzel with chips, which hit the spot perfectly. You can also write a note and pin it to the walls or ceiling, so we did just that — and spent a while reading through the hundreds of notes left by travelers from years gone by. It was like flipping through a time capsule of Budapest memories.

Next up, cocktail time at Tiki Bar Budapest. Think underground island vibes, fun glassware, and a menu that doesn’t hold back.". Their cocktails are wild — beautifully decorated, boozy, and potent and every drink feels like a mini holiday."

You can even buy the cups your drinks come in, from skulls to pineapples. I didn’t, but I was very tempted.

To top off the night, we headed to 360 Bar, perched high above the city on Andrássy Avenue. It’s a rooftop with serious wow-factor. The domes (used during winter) were gone since the summer season was beginning, but the views were still insane. It’s on the pricier side for drinks, but the view more than makes up for it.

Day 2: Castles, Comedy & Culture

We started with a plan to ride the Buda Castle Funicular, but it was sadly out of order. Thankfully, they were selling tickets for the Castle Shuttle Bus, which was a great alternative. For around £12.50, you can hop on and off at the top sights in the Castle District.

We explored:

Fisherman’s Bastion – fairytale-like white towers with panoramic views over Pest and the Parliament.

Buda Castle – grand and historic, sitting majestically over the city.

Várkert Bazár – a beautifully restored neoclassical building with scenic gardens and river views.

Later in the day, we visited Margaret Island, a peaceful green oasis in the middle of the Danube. We hired a two-person bike cart, which was hilarious (and chaotic). Our road sense was... questionable. At one point, we ended up on the running track, much to the amusement of the joggers. It's one of my funniest memories of the trip.

In the afternoon, we walked to the Shoes on the Danube Bank, a deeply moving memorial to Jewish victims of the Holocaust who were executed along the river. A must read is learning about the history beforehand — it’s powerful, and seeing the cast-iron shoes lined up along the riverbank was a sobering moment.

To balance the mood, we visited the IKONO Museum — a colourful, immersive art space where you're encouraged to play and interact. From mirrored rooms to giant installations, it’s the kind of place you can’t help but laugh in. The ball pit was the highlight — pure childlike joy.

Afterward, we visited St. Stephen’s Basilica, the largest church in Budapest. It’s named after Hungary’s first king, and inside, his mummified right hand is housed in a reliquary (a little creepy, I won’t lie). But the church itself? Stunning. Ornate, peaceful, and jaw-droppingly beautiful.

Dinner was at Párisi Udvar, once a luxurious shopping arcade and now a 5-star hotel. The ceiling alone is worth the visit. I had goulash, Hungary’s national dish — somewhere between a soup and a stew, flavoured with smoky paprika. My partner had a Hungarian classics board with deer salami, grey cattle salami, paprika spreads, and more. A live violinist played while we ate, and honestly, it was one of the most romantic moments of our trip.

The evening ended with a sunset Danube cruise. With drinks and tortilla chips in hand, we watched the city light up from the river — including the glowing Parliament and Buda Castle. It was a peaceful, picture-perfect way to wind down the day.

We almost called it a night, but decided to check out Twenty Six — an urban jungle-style restaurant and bar right in the heart of the city. Plants everywhere, warm lighting, and a vibe that’s cozy and chic. We had a couple of cocktails and soaked in the atmosphere. It's a must for nature lovers and foodies alike.

Day 3: Cats, Baths & Magic

Our last day started at Central Market Hall, where we picked up local souvenirs and snacks. Then came my favourite spot ever — the Cat Café. If you’re a cat person, you have to go. The cats roam freely, the drinks are surprisingly cheap, and the fur-baby cuddles are free. I didn’t want to leave.

No trip to Budapest is complete without a dip in one of its famous thermal baths, so we made our way to the Széchenyi Thermal Bath — one of the largest and most iconic in Europe. Housed in a grand neo-Baroque building, it looks more like a palace than a public bathhouse.

We opted for a cabin ticket, which I highly recommend — it gave us a private changing space and somewhere safe to leave our things while we explored the pools. Outside, the thermal waters were warm and relaxing, surrounded by the historic yellow architecture that makes it feel like you've stepped into another era.

What surprised me most, though, were the indoor pools, which were actually even warmer than the outdoor ones — perfect for really soaking and unwinding. I'd read a lot online about the infamous “eggy smell” caused by the natural sulphur in the water, and while it was definitely there, it really wasn’t as bad as I'd been led to believe. You get used to it pretty quickly, and it’s a small trade-off for such a unique experience.

One of the highlights for me was the sauna area — an unexpected bonus! After hopping between the hot pools and the cooler plunge baths, stepping into the sauna was the perfect way to warm up and reset. It made the whole experience feel more like a proper spa day than just a swim.

All in all, Széchenyi was not only a great way to rest our tired feet but also one of those only in Budapest moments that really sticks with you. Whether you're there to relax, soak in the history (literally), or just people-watch in steamy waters, it's a must-do.

After our soak, we tried to visit Zoo Café, where exotic animals hang out while you dine, but it was fully booked. So instead, we headed to the New York Café — a lavish, chandelier-filled café often called “the most beautiful café in the world.” It lives up to the hype, with a mini-orchestra playing live. I had the hot chocolate — super rich and thick (a little too chocolatey for me, but if you’re a chocoholic, go for it!).

Our next adventure was Madame Tussauds Budapest, which had all the usual stars and a few local icons too. A fun little stop for some silly selfies.

Dinner was straight out of a fantasy — literally — at The Magic, a wizard-themed restaurant. Potions, bubbling cocktails, mysterious lighting… it was enchanting. The food was surprisingly great, and the cocktails were like drinkable magic tricks.

Then came one of the sweet highlights of the trip — the famous Hungarian chimney cake. After some searching, we finally stumbled upon a vendor called Chimney Cake Zone, and let me tell you, it was so worth the wait.

This sugary, spiral-shaped dough is roasted over an open flame until golden and crispy on the outside, soft on the inside — absolute street food heaven. We went all in with our choice: an almond-crusted chimney cone, filled with rich caramel, topped with whipped cream, a generous drizzle of caramel sauce, berry bits, a crunchy wafer twirl, and the ultimate finishing touch — a Biscoff biscuit. It was indulgent, over-the-top, and completely dreamy. The perfect treat to devour while strolling through the city.

We wrapped up the night at Szimpla Kert, the most famous of Budapest’s ruin bars. It’s wild — filled with mismatched furniture, graffiti, and a buzzing crowd. Right next door is a street food market, where we grabbed a late-night lángos — fried dough topped with sour cream, cheese, or garlic. It was the perfect (if indulgent) way to end the trip.

Final Thoughts: Budapest, You Beautiful Thing

I went in with no expectations and left with a full heart, sore feet, and a million memories. From sipping cocktails under the stars to getting lost on a running track in a bike cart, every moment in Budapest had a story to tell.

One of my favourite little memories? Attaching our padlock to the Chain Bridge, with the city lights behind us and the Danube quietly flowing beneath. It felt like a tiny love letter to the city — a promise to come back one day.

Budapest is romantic, quirky, moving, wild, and packed with personality. It's not the cheapest city break — especially when you’re hopping from rooftop bars to luxury cafés — so make sure to bring plenty of spending money. But every forint felt worth it.

Would I go back? Without hesitation. I’ve barely scratched the surface of what this magical city has to offer. For now, though, I’m home nursing my Buda Blues… already dreaming of our return.

A Day Onboard: Our Visit to Liverpool to sample Ambassador Ambition

A Memorable Day Aboard Ambition: Discovering Warm Hospitality, Elegant Dining, and Classic Cruising with Ambassador Cruise Line in Liverpool.

Keira and I had the absolute pleasure of stepping aboard Ambition, one of Ambassador Cruise Line’s beloved ships, while she was docked in the vibrant city of Liverpool. We didn’t get to see all three ships this time, but just visiting Ambition gave us such a good feel for what Ambassador offers—and now we’re even more eager to explore Ambience and Renaissance to see how they compare!

Ambition – A True Star of the Fleet

Ambition really left an impression. She’s been part of the Ambassador fleet for a couple of years now and sails all over the world—last year alone, she completed an epic world cruise with incredible stops like Cuba!

She carries around 1,400 guests, and with a crew-to-guest ratio that makes everything feel personal and friendly, you really get that warm, mid-size ship experience. With 798 cabins (balcony, ocean-view, interior, and accessible options), there’s something for every kind of traveller.

Getting There – Super Convenient

Ambassador makes life easier with parking available at all UK departure ports from as little as £7 per day. Plus, there's a handy coach service from London Victoria Station straight to the terminal at London Tilbury. Honestly, it makes getting to your cruise as stress-free as possible.

Still on Our Wishlist: Ambience & Renaissance

Although we didn’t get to visit Ambience or Renaissance this time, they’re now firmly on our list. Ambience is the original ship in the fleet and known for her elegant style. Renaissance is the newest addition and will launch this October with some exciting new Caribbean itineraries, flying out of Heathrow and Manchester with Virgin Atlantic.

Dining Onboard – So Much Variety!

From indulgent five-course dinners to relaxed buffets and afternoon teas, Ambition caters to every kind of foodie.

The Buckingham and Holyrood restaurants are ideal if you love traditional cruising and elegant sit-down service. Breakfast and lunch are open-seating with a buffet-and-table service combo, while dinner is a proper five-course affair across two sittings.

Our Food Experience

Keira and I got to eat in the Holyrood Restaurant—and it was such a treat!

Starters: Keira had the cream of tomato soup, rich and velvety, while I went for the prawn cocktail. It was so well presented—fresh, crisp lettuce and a zesty Marie Rose sauce that gave it a lovely tang.

Mains: Keira chose the grilled beef tenderloin, which was cooked to perfection and practically melted in her mouth. I had the butter chicken with rice and thin naan bread—absolutely delicious with a creamy, mild spice.

Dessert: We both had the sticky toffee pudding. It was light, gooey, and soaked in a divine toffee sauce. Honestly, the only cheeky complaint we had? We needed more custard!

If we’d been actual guests, we wouldn’t have been disappointed in the slightest. Presentation was elegant, service was spot on, and everything tasted fab.

The Palladium – A Must-See Theatre

Walking into The Palladium made us feel like we were in the Royal Albert Hall! The stunning colour palette, huge stage, and individual drink tables at each seat made it one of the most impressive theatres we’ve seen at sea.

With two nightly shows (8:00 PM and 10:00 PM), there’s always time to catch a performance no matter which dining sitting you choose.

We didn’t get to see a show this time, but we heard brilliant things—and love that drinks are encouraged inside (with a full bar team ready to serve during the show!).

Bonus: There’s direct access from The Palladium to the Purple Turtle Wine Bar, making it easy to enjoy a show and then sip a glass of wine downstairs with live music.

The Green Sea Spa – Forest Calm at Sea

Tucked away on Deck 11 near the gym, The Green Sea Spa is a true oasis. Think calming green tones, forest-inspired décor, and peaceful lighting—instantly relaxing.

Access to the steam room and sauna is free (yes, included!), and spa treatments and hair services are also available at an extra charge.

Shopping & Destination Experiences

The duty-free shop has a brilliant selection—alcohol, perfume, tobacco, chocolate—you name it. It opens once the ship is sailing and is great for grabbing gifts (especially festive booze around Christmas).

For destination experiences, there's a helpful desk onboard. You can pre-register your excursions via the My Ambassador app 6–8 weeks before travel. You're not actually paying upfront—payment is made at the end of the cruise, which is super handy in case of weather-related port changes.

Important tip: If something is sold out on the app, it’s also sold out onboard. So don’t wait if there’s something you’re really keen on!

Accessibility & Inclusivity

Accessibility has clearly been thought through. There are adapted cabins onboard, and standard wheelchairs can access most areas.

One of our favourite features? The interactive digital kiosks dotted around the ship. They’re full of useful info—your cruise account, daily programmes, dining, destination experiences, ship tracker, and more.

And if you’re a wheelchair user—great news: the screens adjust up and down to your height! No stretching, no straining. It’s those little things that make a big difference.

What's the audience onboard?...

Ambassador mostly caters to couples, solo travellers, and groups aged 50+. Ambition & Ambience are predominately adults only excluding the occasional multigenerational cruise. Renaissance will be adult focused with kids being allowed to sail from 3.

The Ambassador Promise – “Love it or Leave it”

Here’s a standout feature: First-time guests are covered by the “Love it or leave it” guarantee. If something’s not right within the first 24 hours, just report it to the hotel manager. They then have another 24 hours to fix it. If they can’t, you’ll be refunded and returned home.

Staying in Midtown – The Perfect Location
If you're looking for a fantastic location out of the hustle and bustle but still within walking distance of key attractions, staying near Lexington Avenue and Grand Central Terminal in Midtown is ideal. I stayed at The Renwick Hotel, which was beautiful and quirky, with an art-themed style. The little touches, like the paintbrush 'Do Not Disturb' sign, made it extra special. Rooms were spacious with huge beds, and while there were no in-room tea or coffee facilities, free tea and coffee were available downstairs in the morning. You can also fill up your reusable water bottle from the gym. Staff were lovely and incredibly helpful. Just keep in mind resort fees were around $40 per night, and the refundable deposit was higher than expected, but it was refunded within two days of returning home.

Top Tips for Exploring NYC

Grand Central Terminal: Stick to the main terminal and avoid the restrooms.
Times Square: Visit early morning when jet lag wakes you up—between 5:30-6:00 AM in winter is perfect for empty, crowd-free photos.
Planning is Key: NYC is huge and involves a lot of walking. Plan your days in advance to avoid unnecessary backtracking.
Hudson Yards & The High Line: A must-visit! Walk the High Line for stunning views, and near the end, you'll find Little Island, a quirky, free floating park on the Hudson River. This spot is beautiful year-round, but in Spring & Summer, it’s even more vibrant. There are also toilets available on-site.
Toilet Finder App: Finding toilets in NYC can be tricky, so download a toilet finder app to save time. Many fast-food places require a code, meaning you have to buy something to use the toilet.

Brooklyn & Dumbo – Sunrise Views & Foodie Gems

Walk the Brooklyn Bridge for sunrise – fewer crowds, stunning views! Once over the bridge, explore Dumbo and grab breakfast at Time Out Market or a nearby cute coffee shop.
Visit Pebble Beach for great city skyline views.
Chinatown: Stop by Tasty Dumpling for affordable and delicious dumplings and dim sum. Try Mei Lai Wah’s famous Pineapple Bun—there's no pineapple in it, but it’s incredible!

Foodie Highlights

Medium Rare Steakhouse: Serves just Steak! A prix fixe menu ($34.95) offering steak, fries, and their famous sauce—includes bread, butter, and salad. They also have plenty of dessert options which the Sundae and Apple pie are supposed to be delicious. Amazing service and incredible food it's one you should add to your list. Highly recommended!
Best Pizza Spots: Check out $1.50 Pizza, L’Industrie, Joe’s Pizza, and Mama’s Too for delicious, affordable slices.
Sote Coffee Roasters (Upper West Side) – An independent coffee shop near Central Park, perfect for a warm break.

Unique NYC Experiences

Roosevelt Island: A must-do at sunrise or sunset. I would spend half a day here in order to see the whole island. This is where you can see a memorial and the ruins of a former Smallpox Hospital from 1854 and the statue of President Roosevelt.
NYC Ferries: Instead of expensive boat tours, take a $4.50 NYC ferry or the FREE Staten Island Ferry for unbeatable city views, including the Statue of Liberty. Make sure you stay on the right side for the best views including the wonderful statue of liberty again all for FREE. Avoid scammers outside—you don’t need to buy a ticket!
Summit One Vanderbilt: One of the best observation decks in NYC—Very immersive & fun. The bar at the top has great views and a Cafe for drinks and food at reasonable prices too. One of my most favourite experiences I've ever done and I have done both Empire state and Rockefeller.
Hudson Yards: An experience called The Vessel: A unique experience, bookable on-site for a small fee.
Central Park: Visit at sunrise for a peaceful experience—especially on a Sunday morning when locals are out walking their dogs. The park is huge, so plan multiple visits.

Why Visit NYC in Winter?
I loved experiencing New York in winter! It was cold (often below freezing), but layer up and wear comfy shoes, and you’ll be fine. Snow is possible, so check the forecast and pack accordingly. The best part? Fewer crowds, no long queues, and a more relaxing experience in one of the world’s busiest cities.

New York City is unforgettable, and visiting in the off-season gave me the chance to enjoy it without the usual chaos. If you’re thinking about a winter trip, I highly recommend it!

Sindbad Club: Our Ultimate Family Escape to Hurghada, Egypt

Having travelled to many family hotels in different destinations over the years, my absolute favourite has to be Sindbad Club in Hurghada, Egypt. My family and I have been 6 times in the last 8 years and we have the most amazing holiday every time.

Best advice I could give is to book private transfers. It costs very little and means that as soon as you leave the airport, you can be right on your way to the hotel and get checked in. The check in process is quick and easy and before you know it the kids will be begging to go and explore!

We always start our day with breakfast at the Botanica restaurant. This is one of two buffet restaurants at the hotel and is located at the onsite aquapark. The larger Gusto buffet restaurant is located in the main hotel with calming views over the pool. Both of these open early for the early risers and breakfast finishes between 10-10.30 for the late starters! With a huge selection to choose from there is something to suit everyone and we never struggle to find something that the whiole family can eat. Just over the road from Sindbad you will also find a Pizza Hut, McDonalds & KFC... ideal for the home reminder or if anyone is a little fussy - these are much better than what we get served in the UK and all super cheap too

Our days are mainly spent at the Aquapark or the beach. Snorkelling is a must over there and you can see so many different species of fish - we even saw a sea turtle on our last visit! There is plenty to do at Sindbad, from the many waterslides and wave pool, snorkelling and island boat trips to archery, boccia, water polo and rifle shooting plus loads more. With it's own private beach just over the road and all of the facilities on offer, there is more than enough to entertain everyone!

Of an evening we like to have a wander along Mamsha and have a look through the many shops before heading back to the Hotel to enjoy the evening entertainment. Then it's time for a night cap at the Lounge bar before heading to our room before another day starts! There is also Hurghada Marina which is stunning and features a huge selection of shops and eateries if you fancy a change. Ubers are super cheap too and you can travel around for less than the price of a drink in the UK!

Excursions are always on offer to some of the most stunning islands where you can snorkel and even scuba dive. You can book spa treatments at the onsite spa, submarine trips with the Hotels own Dive Centre and if you are feeling adventurous you can take a trip to see the famous Pyramids.

We absolutely love it at Sindbad Club and we do try to holiday there as often as possible. You are treated like family and all of the staff will remember you like you were there last week, not to mention the weather is fantastic all year round.

My Time In Krakow by Natasha

Exploring Krakow’s Timeless Charm

I have recently visited Krakow and its amazing streets and architecture. Walking through the streets gives you such an authentic feel for its character. Krakow's Old Town is especially captivating with its mix of medieval charm and vibrant energy. The cobblestone streets, grand squares like Rynek Główny, and beautiful architecture—whether it's the gothic spires of St. Mary's Basilica or the Renaissance-style Sukiennice—make it a fascinating place to explore on foot.

I booked an Easyjet package through our shop and set up a payment plan which made affording this amazing city break all that much more easier. We stayed for 4 nights in The Redbrick Apartments which was in the ideal location as it was close to all the transport links and to the popular Galeria Krakowska shopping center. Just a short walk away are the popular sights of Main Market Square, Cloth Hall, Wawel Castle and the Kazimierz District. The apartments offer a real home from home with excellent facilities in each apartment. If you choose Bed & Breakfast you can also choose which continental breakfast you would prefer like Polish, Sweet, Gluten Free or Vegan options are available.

Main Market Square

The Main market square is one of the largest medieval town squares in Europe and is surrounded by historic buildings, including the Cloth Hall (Sukiennice), the Town Hall Tower, and the aforementioned St. Mary’s Basilica. The Main Market Square is the main focal point of the city, where you’ll find a blend of lively cafés, shops, restaurants, and street performers, creating a vibrant atmosphere throughout the day and night.

In addition to these landmarks, the Sukiennice is particularly iconic, a Renaissance-era building that once served as a trading centre and is now home to an indoor market and galleries. St. Mary’s Basilica, with its stunning Gothic architecture and famous altarpiece by Veit Stoss, stands proudly at the edge of the square. And of course, don't forget the Town Hall Tower, which offers a panoramic view of the square and the surrounding city.

The square is always lively with locals and tourists alike, and there’s always something to discover, whether it’s the beautiful architecture, a concert, or just enjoying the energy of the space.

My Mum and I would definitely recommend the No 7 Restaurant situated in the Main Square. It was great value for money and the food was delicious which was an extra bonus. We paid roughly around £18 GBP for 2 main courses and a jug of sweet water.

TOP TIPS: -

With many shops with beautiful gifts, clothing and food delicacies i would definitely recommend taking plenty of Zolety.
There are quite a lot of tourist attractions to see which are very close together within the Main Market Square so be sure to research things you would like to see and do in advance and if so make a plan prior to traveling.
A lot of the galleries and museums charge a fee and book up very quickly. So booking in advance will guarantee you getting to see the Must sees of Krakow and avoid disappointment.

Eating & Shoppi ng

There is definitely no doubt Krakow offers the most amazing Polish cuisine but if your a fussy eater then dont worry as there is well known restaurants you can find around the world with the likes of Mcdonalds, Burger King, Pizza Hut and more.

Where our accommodation was at the end of the road was the huge shopping centre, I'd say it was the Polish version of Trafford centre. This had all the designer shops which you will recognise like Zara, adidas, Guess, Pull & Bear plus many more.

Transport

On arrival we jumped on the train to get the city, there is a train station at the airport and it cost under 5zl each. For our return journey back to the airport we caught an Uber which cost around £8. I would say in Krakow you don't need to pre-book any airport transfers! Its so easy!

The Wieliczka Salt Mine

The Wieliczka Salt Mine was one of the most fascinating and unique attractions I have ever done, and it’s definitely worth a visit! It is located just outside the city, in the town of Wieliczka (about 30 minutes by coach) . I definitely recommend booking this tour at the time of booking your city break, in Krakow it was priced much higher.

The mine has been in operation for over 700 years and is one of the oldest and most famous salt mines in the world.

The Wieliczka Salt Mine is not just a mine; it’s like an underground city with a network of tunnels, chambers, and galleries. We had an English tour guide that led us down into the depths of the mine, up to 135 meters below ground. As you descend, you’ll see stunning salt sculptures, medieval mining tools, and even underground chapels (including the awe-inspiring St. Kinga’s Chapel, a massive chamber entirely carved out of salt, complete with salt chandeliers and altarpieces).

The mine has been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1978, and it offers a rich history of salt mining in the region, as well as the cultural significance of the salt to Kraków's development and economy. The entire experience is a combination of history, geology, and art, with some chambers being large enough to hold concerts and exhibitions.

The tour is divided into several routes depending on the length of the visit, but most tours will take you through the most spectacular parts of the mine. You’ll learn how salt was extracted and even have a chance to see some of the mine’s hidden treasures—like the underground museum that showcases the lives of the miners.

The tour guide said “you're more than welcome to lick the walls to prove it is really made out of salt” and in true Yorkshire fashion I could not resist taking her up on her offer! I can now confirm it is REAL salt!

TOP TIPS: -

Accessibility : Some sections of the mine are wheelchair friendly and accessible to people with reduced mobility.

Clothing : The mine maintains a constant temperature of around 18 degrees Celsius. Bring a light jacket or sweater, even in the summer, to stay comfortable during your exploration. Wear comfortable shoes as you will need to climb 800 stairs.

Health check : Ensure you do a health checkup for signs of claustrophobia and whether you’re fit to climb 800 stairs.

Book tickets : Book your tickets in advance to reserve your spot.

Guided tour : Get a guided tour of the Salt Mines. The expert guide can help you learn fascinating things about the site. (Available in Many languages).

The Oskar Schindler Factory Museum

When I Visited The Oskar Schindler Factory Museum (officially known as the Museum of Contemporary History of Kraków at the Oskar Schindler Factory) it was a moving and educational experience, one that will stay with me for a long time. It’s definitely one of the key historical sites to see in Kraków, particularly for anyone interested in World War II history or the Holocaust like myself.

The Museum tells the story of the Nazi occupation of Kraków during World War II, focusing particularly on the experiences of the Jewish population, as well as the heroic actions of Oskar Schindler, who saved over 1,000 Jews by employing them in his factory.

The museum is part of a larger effort to preserve and interpret the history of the war in Kraków, as well as to honor the memories of those who lived through it. It’s a deeply immersive experience that combines personal narratives, historical accounts, and multimedia exhibits to bring the era to life. The exhibition covers the full history of Nazi-occupied Kraków, from the occupation in 1939 to the liberation in 1945.

While the museum doesn't focus exclusively on Schindler himself, it uses his story as a central point of entry. Schindler, a German businessman, is widely remembered for saving the lives of his Jewish workers by employing them in his factory and later moving them to a safer location. The famous movie Schindler's List (directed by Steven Spielberg) which is a must watch in my opinion before coming to tour this museum, helped cement his legacy, but the museum provides a much broader context, detailing the harsh realities faced by the Jewish population, the horrors of the Holocaust, and the courage of those who resisted.

The museum includes:

Historical exhibits about life in Kraków during the war, Personal stories of people who lived through the Holocaust, Multimedia presentations that provide an emotional, deeply moving narrative, Photographs, documents, and artefacts that help illustrate the history of the time.

A special section dedicated to Oskar Schindler, explaining his role during the war and how he helped save lives.

The museum also features exhibits about life in the city under German occupation, with a focus on the everyday lives of Kraków's residents and the hardships they faced. It’s an incredibly well-curated space that asks visitors to reflect on the atrocities of war and the humanity that can emerge in the most unlikely places.

Top Tips: -

Must be pre booked as only 300 People at a time are allowed in the museum at once.
There is a cafe with a small gift shop to visit before or after your visit.
It is pretty flat but contains a lot of walking to get around

The Wawel Castle

This Castle was probably one of the most incredible castles I have ever seen in my life. The imposing Medieval complex literally dominates the city’s skyline. Walking through its historic halls and courtyards, you can almost feel the echoes of the past, from royal coronations to legendary tales of dragons. Whether you’re a history lover like me and want to explore every room and tower, or you simply want to walk the grounds and enjoy the panoramic views.

The Tale goes in the early Middle Ages when it served as the residence of Polish kings and the political seat of the country. One of the most significant builders of Wawel Castle was King Casimir III the Great, who reigned from 1333 to 1370.

During the 16th century, under the reign of King Sigismund I the Old and his Italian wife, Queen Bona Sforza, the castle flourished as a Renaissance masterpiece. However, its glory days as a royal residence came to an end in the 17th century when the Swedish invasions and subsequent partitions of Poland led to its decline.

Despite these turbulent times, Wawel Castle has been meticulously restored and today stands as a testament to Poland’s resilience and rich cultural history. It’s not just a castle; it’s a living museum where every stone tells a story.

One of the most famous legends is that of a fearsome dragon who lived in a cave beneath the castle, terrorizing the city and devouring livestock and unwary villagers. The dragon was eventually slain by a clever shoemaker’s apprentice named Krakus, who tricked the beast into eating a sheep stuffed with sulphur. After the dragon drank from the Vistula River to quench its burning thirst, it exploded, freeing the city from its tyranny. Today, a statue of the Wawel Dragon stands below the castle, breathing fire every 5-10 minutes.

Another intriguing legend involves the mysterious Chakra Stone, believed to be one of the earth’s seven main energy points, located somewhere under St. Gereon’s Chapel. Some say that it was placed there by ancient Hindu priests, while others believe it was brought to Krakow by King Casimir the Great.

TOP TIPS: -

If you plan to visit the cathedral or royal tombs, make sure to check the opening hours ahead of time, it’s often a good idea to arrive early, especially during peak tourist season.
There are two main entrances: The Herbowa Gate from Podzamcze Street, also known as the Gate of the Coat of Arms, is the primary entrance, leading directly to the castle’s main courtyard. It is the closest entrance to the Old Town. The Bernardyńska Gate, located on the southern side, provides an alternative entrance, often used by those coming from the direction of the Vistula River and Kazimierz.
You can visit most of the castle grounds for free, which to me is the highlight. There’s also free admission to several exhibitions
Tickets can be purchased at the on-site ticket office or online through the official Wawel Castle website. I booked my tickets in advance.

The Auschwitz-Birkenau Tour

A heavy and harrowing experience, but a tour done with such insight and respect.

This experience was profoundly moving, making it difficult to put into words. Our tour guide was exceptional, sharing her incredible knowledge with sensitivity and respect. Hearing her story added a deeply personal layer to the visit—her grandmother was taken to the camp, leaving her mother, just two years old at the time, behind with her father, never to return.

Having grown up with these stories and with over 30 years of experience as a guide, her passion and dedication were evident. She carried herself with such grace and pride, ensuring every word was spoken with care and thoughtfulness. Truly unforgettable.

There are some parts of the tour in which they ask no photos to be taken, out of respect. These parts of the tour are signed and posted and are very emotional parts of the tour, your tour guide will also let you know when these parts of the tour come up.

I wont go into depth about this tour, it was a very emotional day and i will say be prepared as some areas of the tour are very uncomfortable to hear.

TOP TIPS: -

There is a lot of walking, so if you do struggle with mobility I would look into this before booking.
Passports are essential as you won't be able to enter without it.
You can do this tour independently, I would recommend a tour guide just so you can hear all the history about the camp.

I can’t disclose how many times I’ve been to Florida, as it may reveal my obsession with the most magical place in the world. Over the years, I’ve picked up top tips and little hints that have made each return even more special than the time before.

Flights to Florida can feel like a marathon, but with a few simple tips and tricks, you can make the journey a lot more comfortable and enjoyable. Lets start with a few of my top tips which have helped me arrive at my destination feeling refreshed and ready to go.

1. Stay at an Airport Hotel

Start your trip on the right foot by staying at an airport hotel the night before your flight. This way, you won’t need to wake up super early, and you can ensure you’re well-rested for the journey ahead. Sleep is precious—get as much as you can before your holiday begins!

2. Download Your Favourite Show

Even though long-haul flights usually offer in-flight entertainment, it’s a good idea to download your favourite series or movies to your phone or tablet. This is especially helpful if the in-flight selection doesn’t appeal to you, or if you prefer something familiar to ease your nerves.

3. Tips for Nervous Flyers

If you’re a nervous flyer, choose a window seat. Being able to see outside can help calm your nerves. Get cozy, wear comfortable clothes, and bring noise-cancelling headphones to block out the background noise. Music or a calming podcast can work wonders. For take off, focus on the view outside the window—it helps!

4. Pack a Snack Box

Make a snack box with a variety of treats to keep you energized. Grab a box with compartments (like a sewing accessory box from Poundland) to make it fun and organized. This way, you’ll have a mini buffet on hand during the flight!

Get up and walk around when you can. Stretch your legs during bathroom breaks, and take the long way back to your seat. It helps keep circulation going.

14. Don’t Rush Off the Plane

When the plane lands, stay calm. Everyone’s eager to get off, but there’s no rush—don’t let other people’s impatience affect your holiday mood.

15. Save Snacks for Border Control

Pack some snacks and drinks for when you arrive, especially in case you face a long wait at border control. This is a lifesaver, especially if you have kids with you.

16. Eat Well Before Boarding

Have a nice meal before your flight. If you’re at Manchester’s Terminal 2, try Archie’s for a great selection of breakfast items. Avoid those tempting milkshakes—they don’t mix well with long flights!

17. Fight Jet Lag

When you arrive, try to stay up as late as possible to adjust to the local time. If jet lag strikes, take it easy, but keep trying to stick to your new time zone.

18. First Day Strategy

On your first day, wake up early and head to your first park or activity right when it opens, but don’t overdo it. By afternoon, head to the pool for some relaxation and order a pizza for a laid-back evening.

Moderate Resort: Art of Animation for a full Disney-themed experience.
Deluxe Resort: Disney's Polynesian Village Resort for a quieter, more refined Disney experience with easy access to Magic Kingdom.

For a perfect blend of Disney magic and American culture, consider staying at Rosen Inn Lake Buena Vista. It’s conveniently located near Disney with easy access to shopping and dining options. If you prefer to be in the heart of the action, International Drive (I-Drive) is ideal. Bustling with attractions, restaurants, and shops, it also places you closer to Universal Studios. So if your a thrill seeker and prefer Universal consider staying on I-Drive. When planning your trip, be sure to use the My Disney Experience app to organize dining reservations, ride times, and park itineraries. However, stay flexible—Florida's unpredictable weather might require you to adjust your plans. Always carry essentials like ponchos, spare socks, snacks, and water when visiting the parks, you just don't know if you will get soaked on one of the amazing water rides or catch a mid day down pour of rain(it dries up quickly). Keep hydrated for free - ice water is available at quick service locations, so take advantage of that.

For dining, my top recommendations: Character dining at Crystal Palace, Topolino’s Terrace (breakfast), and ‘Ohana were my most memorable. Top dining spots for me are Liberty Tree Tavern at Magic Kingdom and Yak & Yeti at Animal Kingdom. Quick service dining, try Chicken Guy, Blaze Pizza, or Woody’s Lunchbox.

The best times to visit Orlando for lower crowds and fun festivals are January, late April, or early December. If visiting during hurricane season (September/October), plan accordingly. Lastly, make sure to visit the charming Celebration Town, especially in the fall or winter. It’s a picturesque spot perfect for morning walks, unique local eateries, and pet-friendly shops.

If you're visiting Orlando during the holiday seasons, there are a few magical events you won't want to miss. Whether you prefer spooky thrills or festive cheer, there’s something for everyone. These seasonal events add an extra layer of magic to your Orlando trip, so be sure to plan ahead and book your tickets early!

Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party
If you’re traveling between August and October 31st, make sure to pre-book tickets for Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party at Magic Kingdom. This event is a night like no other—experience trick-or-treating Disney-style, collecting as much American candy as you can! Dress up with your family and enjoy exclusive night-time entertainment, including the iconic "Boo to You" parade. The party also features unique dining experiences and merchandise that you can only get during this event. It’s a memorable, fun-filled evening that I highly recommend!

Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Orlando
For thrill-seekers, Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights is the ultimate scare fest. With numerous scare zones and haunted houses, there’s a fright waiting around every corner. This event is not recommended for children under 13, as it can be quite intense. If your child scares easily, I’d advise against it, but for those who love a good scare, it’s an unforgettable experience!

Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party
If you’re visiting between November and December, make sure to pre-book Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party. Similar to the Halloween party but full of Christmas cheer, you’ll walk around collecting cookies and sipping hot chocolate or hot cider. Dress in festive PJs, enjoy the magical Christmas music, and watch special shows. The night ends with a unique Christmas parade and firework display that will have you in the holiday spirit in no time.

The Italian Lakes, home to some of the most highly creative chefs comes with unforgettable dishes, where produce is sourced locally and like a true Italian, paired with the perfect vino from one of the many surrounding family run vineyards. One of my favourite spots has to be Lake Garda where you are surrounded by crystal clear blue water. Hop on and off the boat in the surrounding resorts of Malcesine, Limone & Bardolino to name a few where each resort has something to offer from the local leather market stalls to bars and bistros lining the shores and not to forget the vintage Italian glamour boutiques you can peruse around - guaranteed that you wont leave empty handed.

Explore the mountain peaks and market streets in Austria, home to Mozart and the Sound Of Music. I loved walking down the city streets, while admiring the captivating Salzburg's Old Town and stunning array of arts & culture it has to offer. A trip to the Fortress was one of my favourites. If your feeling fit you can walk or there is the option to take the funicular up to the fortress. Inside you will find original chambers, once home to the Archbishops with the magnificently designed Golden Chamber. Galleries, shops, cafes, and magnificent views over the city of Salzburg can be seen from the towers on the rooftop. Tickets can be bought locally or through your resort rep. I personally chose to pre book: you get to choose your preferred day and it includes transfers to and from your resort. Set your own pace as you get to know towns brimming with history and culture. If it is adventure that you seek, why not take a ride on the gondola up the unmissable mountain peaks, where you will find: parks & trails for the family, hikers, restaurants and bars along the way to dine at with spectacular views. There are natural lakes if you fancy a dip to rejuvenate the soul. Don't miss seeing the Krimml Falls or catch the train to the 3,463m-high Jungfraujoch from Grindelwald in Switzerland for the perfect shot! Push yourself to your limits and try Paragliding off one of the peaks or try a spot of white water rafting if you think your brave enough.

Lots of towns also have their own festivities throughout the summer, from the Chicretto Wine Festival in Lake Garda to the Dumpling Festival in St Johann Austria - so you can get stuck in and celebrate like a local. I had the pleasure to experience a local cheese and wine festival whilst I was in Kitzbuhl, Austria and it was fantastic.

From First Snowflakes to Family Fun on the Slopes

Our first family ski holiday to Flaine was a magical experience. With our 4-year-old in tow, we were eager to explore the slopes and introduce our little one to the joys of skiing. Flaine, nestled in the Grand Massif region of the French Alps, is a renowned family-friendly resort, making it an ideal choice for beginners and families.

Upon arrival, we were greeted by Flaine’s picturesque setting and a charming alpine village blanketed in fresh snow. The resort's layout is compact, which meant everything we needed was conveniently close by – from ski rental shops to ski schools and cafés. For our 4-year-old, we enrolled him in a ski school specially designed for young children. Here, he was introduced to skiing in a playful and safe environment, with friendly instructors who made learning fun through games and activities in the dedicated area. Hearing him talk all about the fun he had and showing us his crafts he had made and of course watching him gain confidence on the snow was a proud and heart-warming experience moment.

Flaine's wide variety of nursery and gentle blue slopes made it easy to practice our skiing skills. The well-groomed runs provided just the right level of challenge, and we took a couple of lessons ourselves to ensure we were getting the basics down. The ski instructors were patient and helpful, allowing us to quickly build confidence and transition to some of the easier blue runs with stunning views of Mont Blanc in the distance.

The family-friendly atmosphere extended beyond the slopes. After our ski sessions, we’d regroup and enjoy hot chocolates at one of the resort’s inviting cafés. One afternoon, we explored the ice skating rink and even took a scenic walk through the snow-covered forest trails. Flaine’s pedestrian-friendly setup meant our little one could run around safely and experience the snow in various ways, from sledging to building snowmen.

Evenings were equally delightful, with plenty of options for family dining and activities like bowling and a cinema to keep everyone entertained. Our accommodation was conveniently located near the main ski area, making it easy to come and go throughout the day. Flaine has plenty of Ski In & Ski Out accommodation, which is perfect if you a tired 4 year old!

Overall, our first ski holiday in Flaine was a fantastic mix of adventure, learning, and family fun. Flaine’s welcoming ambiance, excellent ski schools, and variety of non-ski activities made it the perfect destination for our little one’s introduction to skiing.
