When it comes to self-catered stays in Les Deux Alpes, these up-to-date apartments are hard to beat. You've got the slopes of the separate Vallée Blanche part of the ski area on your doorstep, or to stretch your legs exploring runs in the resort's main area, you can hop on a 5-minute bus to the lifts in the centre. Throw in extra perks like a pool and kids’ play area, and it’s a favourite for families too.

Les Deux Alpes meets the bar for reliable snow and varied, high-altitude slopes (220km of them in fact). But it also has some stand-out features that make it pretty unique. Unlike in most resorts, where the skiing gets tougher the higher you go, some of the easiest runs here are actually at the top of the mountain, on the Glacier du Mont de Lans. Beginners and intermediates can head up there to enjoy wide, cruisy blues. Then lower down, there are mogul-filled blacks and tons of excellent off-piste to keep experts going all week.

The town was designed to be easy to access, so pretty much all of the accommodation is within a few minutes’ walk of the lifts. And unlike other apartment-heavy French resorts, there are plenty of great-value half-board hotels here, so mealtimes are a breeze. It’s also known for its après scene – stop at the bottom of the slopes for drinks and dancing at Umbrella Bar, or spend the night partying to live music in Smithy’s or chilling out by the fire in The Polar Bear Pub.
