This classic Norwegian pick has self-catered trips sorted, starting with the location – step outside and you’ve got a supermarket directly opposite. Getting to the slopes is simple too, and once you’re done for the day, you’ve got a log-burning stove and underfloor heating to ramp up those cosy cabin vibes.
As for looks, it’s all about rustic charm, with lots of wood everywhere you look and a chunky stone fireplace in the kitchenette-cum-lounge. Things are simple facilities-wise, so settle in for laid-back evenings unwinding on the sofa with some card games.
Just starting your ski adventure? Well for great snow and beginner runs – plus winter wonderland vibes – look no further than Beitostølen. This small ski area has 21km of slopes that are perfect for learning on, especially with the help of the English-speaking ski school instructors. And after your lessons, you can practise on your own by looping the quiet greens and blues – they all lead back to the resort centre, so there’ll be no worries about finding your way around.
The village is a cluster of wooden buildings with a handful of restaurants and a couple of bars where you can stop for a post-ski tipple. Behind that traditional exterior, there are hotels and apartments done up in modern Scandi style. Or you can stay in a wooden cabin and spend your evenings cosied up in front of the fire. And surrounding it all are beautiful views of snow-covered hills, trees and a frozen lake.
